Frog in a pond

Please note: All of our fun recipes are intended for humans to eat! While book Maxi and his siblings love similar foods to humans, the real life Maxi and his siblings can only eat specific dog diets made for them! Just like some kids can’t eat nuts, chocolate is toxic to dogs and can harm them. Make sure you never feed your dogs anything that could harm them. With that important information in mind, enjoy this fun recipe for human enjoyment!

A Maxi Paton twist on the classic frog in a pond! We decided to use four separate jelly flavours to get the four colours that match Maxi and each one of his three siblings. Blueberry jelly for Maxi, yellow mango jelly for Bruce, pink watermelon jelly for Penny and purple jelly for Sally. The recipe is incredibly simple, and very fun to make!

For just one coloured jelly, you will need:

  • 500g Jelly Packet (we used an Aussie classic - Aeroplane Jelly)

  • 1 cup of hot water

  • 200ml of cold water

  • Freddo Frogs (or any chocolate confectionory of your choice - the more fun, the better!)

  • Lollies of your choice (we went with Allen’s Vegan Fruit Flavoured Jellies)

  1. Follow the instructions of your chosen jelly packet, in the case of Aeroplane Jelly, the instructions are as follows:

    1. Empty contents of Jelly into a bowl and add 1 cup (250 mL) of BOILING WATER. Stir and dissolve well. Add 200 mL of COLD WATER and stir.

    2. Refrigerate until firm and WOBBLY (minimum 4 hours).

  2. After the jelly has set, you can add your Freddo Frog or chocolate of choice, alongside your candies of choice, to build your pond!

We then repeated the above steps with our other three jelly flavours to create the jelly cups Maxi and his siblings love! Penny loves the colour pink, so she adds pink candies to her pond. Sally likes darker colours, so she adds darker coloured candies to her pond, and Maxi and Bruce like their ponds nice and simple! Maxi has to add a berry or two for his frog though - he can’t stand his frog being alone in his pond.
